In the beginning I conceived the Ainur and I taught them of the Art of Music. They have improvised in a song, greater than what they had ever sung. Melkor, among them, waved opposing music deliberately, so that he would stand out. I then, proposed a second theme, but Melkor’s discord rose up against it. There was dismay among the Ainur so I raised my hand and a third and final theme unfolded. It had two dominant melodies: a slow one with an immeasurable sorrow and a sharper, harsher one. There was a vast crescendo of conflict, until I finally brought it all to a crashing conclusion with one massive chord, deeper than the Abyss.
